Cleo Condoravdi is a Consulting Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Stanford University and a Member of the Research Staff at the Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI). She is affiliated with the Natural Language Theory and Technology group at PARC and actively contributes to computational semantics research.
Research Interests: Her work spans formal semantics, pragmatics, and syntax, with a focus on modality, temporality, imperatives, performatives, negation, and clitic systems. She explores cross-linguistic phenomena such as Jespersen's cycle, scalar implicatures, and aspectual shifts in Indo-Aryan languages. Her computational work includes developing algorithms for textual inference and polarity analysis.
Key Contributions: Recent work includes analyses of performativity in speech acts, scalar NPIs like 'until', and historical syntax studies on clitic systems in Late Medieval Greek. She collaborates extensively with scholars like David Beaver, Sven Lauer, and Paul Kiparsky.
Professional Activities: Active in academic conferences (e.g., Sinn & Bedeutung, Semantics Fest) and has published widely in journals like Journal of Greek Linguistics and Proceedings of the Amsterdam Colloquium. Her research bridges formal linguistic theory with computational applications.
