Clemens Six is a Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and the Research Centre for Historical Studies (CHS). His academic career includes roles as Associate Professor (2020–24) and Assistant Professor (2011–20), with prior positions at the University of Bern and the University of Chicago. His research focuses on contemporary South and Southeast Asian history, North-South relations, and post-1945 internationalisms, with a particular emphasis on decolonization, rural development, and secularism in Asia.
Key research projects include studies on FAO’s role in India and British-Malaya, the impact of decolonization on rural spaces, and the transnational history of secularism. He supervises numerous PhD candidates on topics ranging from South Asian environmental history to transnational religious dynamics.
Teaching includes global history courses such as 'The Great Imperial War (1931–1960)' and 'Sexuality: A Global History since 1945.' His recent publications explore settler colonialism, rural social engineering, and UNESCO’s peace initiatives in postcolonial contexts.
