Dr. Clemens Hetschko is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds. His research focuses on the economics of wellbeing, labour economics, behavioural economics, and survey methodology, with applications to social policy. He is actively involved in the academic community through leadership and editorial roles.
Research Interests: Clemens Hetschko's work contributes to a paradigm shift in economics by moving beyond income-based models to analyze individual and societal wellbeing using large-scale survey data. His research examines how labour market phenomena and institutions affect wellbeing, aiming to inform policies that enhance quality of life. He integrates insights from behavioural economics and focuses on methodological rigor in survey design and analysis.
He is a co-editor of the Journal of Happiness Studies, co-leads the Berlin Network for Research on Wellbeing, and serves on the board of the International Society for Quality of Life Studies. His academic affiliations include visiting positions at Free University Berlin and the Institute for Employment Research in Nuremberg.
Teaching: At the postgraduate level, he leads the core module LUBS5103M Microeconomics and founded the elective LUBS5148M Economics of Wellbeing. His teaching reflects his research expertise and commitment to advancing the study of wellbeing in economics education.
