Clayton Littlejohn is a Professor of Philosophy at King's College London, based at the Strand Campus. He joined King's in 2011 after teaching at Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas at San Antonio. His research focuses on epistemology (particularly justification, epistemic norms, and perception), ethical theory (including the moral significance of intention and the distinction between justification and excuse), and action theory. He is also interested in the relationship between theoretical and practical reason, skepticism, and the nature of reasons for action.
Dr. Littlejohn holds a PhD from the University of Nebraska and a bachelor's degree from Rhodes College. He teaches courses on Epistemology and Ethics. His work explores topics like the truth-connection in justification, rationality, and the application of epistemic standards in criminal law. He supervises PhD students in his areas of expertise and maintains a research profile emphasizing clarity and rigor in philosophical inquiry.
Publications include works in prestigious journals such as Philosophy and Phenomenological Research and Synthese, covering themes like epistemic perspectivism, moral responsibility, and legal standards of proof. He engages in public philosophy through platforms like Bloggingheads, discussing questions such as 'What Should We Believe?'
