Claudio Ferraz is a Professor of Economics at the Vancouver School of Economics, University of British Columbia, and holds a part-time professorship at the Department of Economics of Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He is also affiliated with multiple institutions, including the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and the Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL). Ferraz earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley (2006), following earlier degrees from the University of Costa Rica and Boston University.
His research focuses on economic development, political economy, and public economics, with a particular emphasis on governance, corruption, and policy evaluation. He has contributed significantly to understanding the impacts of anti-corruption measures, electoral accountability, and the role of social media in political behavior. His work often addresses challenges in developing economies, including Brazil.
Ferraz has been recognized as a Fellow of the Econometric Society and an Honorary Member of LACEA. His research spans topics such as fiscal policy, political training programs, and the long-term effects of political power structures. He is also actively involved in policy advocacy through institutions like the International Growth Center (IGC) and RIDGE.
