معرفی
Claudio Daniel Stern is a Professor of Anatomy at University College London (UCL), where he has served as Head of the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. Previously, he held roles as Professor and Chairman at Columbia University (1994–2001) and University Lecturer at the University of Oxford (1985–1994). His research focuses on developmental biology, including neural development, cell fate determination, and pattern formation. Stern has made significant contributions to understanding embryonic segmentation, gastrulation processes, and molecular mechanisms governing tissue formation.
Education:
- BSc (Hons.) Biology, University of Sussex (1972–1975)
- DPhil in Developmental Biology, University of Sussex (1975–1978)
Research Interests:
Stern’s work explores fundamental developmental processes such as neural induction, somite formation, and left-right asymmetry. His studies utilize chick and other vertebrate models to investigate gene regulation, cell signaling pathways, and morphogenetic events shaping embryonic structures.
Awards & Honors:
- ERC Advanced Investigator Award (2010)
- Fellow of the Royal Society (2008)
- Waddington Medal (2006)
- Member of EMBO (2001)
Key Contributions:
His research has advanced understanding of the molecular basis of embryonic segmentation (e.g., the role of the segmentation clock in somite development) and the role of FGF signaling in neural induction. Stern has also elucidated mechanisms underlying early embryonic patterning and cell fate decisions.
Advising & Grants:
While specific student names are not listed, his extensive academic roles suggest significant mentorship. He has secured major grants, including the ERC award, and has authored over 150 publications cited thousands of times.
