Claudio Chiarabba

Claudio Chiarabba is a Director of Research at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in Rome since 2000, and previously served as a contract Professor of Physics of the Solid Earth at the University of Rome (2003-2013). He holds a PhD in Geophysics (1993) and a degree in Geologic Science (1989) from the University of Rome.

Research Interests: His work spans seismology, geodynamics, volcanology, and tectonics, with a focus on anthropogenic seismicity and subduction processes in the Mediterranean region. He has investigated induced seismicity in Italy (e.g., Val d’Agri, Emilia-Romagna) and contributed to offshore safety projects.

Grants: He has secured significant funding, including the EUR 1M INGV-MISE project (2015-2016) for offshore seismic safety and EUR 200K for CCS monitoring in Sulcis. His research often involves collaboration with institutions like ENI and the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE).

Leadership: He served as Director of the Earthquake Department (2013-2016) and advises on monitoring industrial activities for seismic risk mitigation in Emilia-Romagna and nationally.
