Claudia Pederson

Claudia Pederson is an Associate Professor of Art History in New Media and Technology at Wichita State University's College of Fine Arts. She holds a PhD in History of Art and Visual Culture from Cornell University (2012). Her research focuses on modern and contemporary art intersecting with technology, media theory, and social practice. She previously taught film at Ithaca College's H. Roy Park School.

Her major publication is Gaming Utopia: Ludic Worlds in Art, Design, and Media (Indiana University Press, 2021). She has published widely in journals like Afterimage and conference proceedings such as ISEA and DAC, addressing topics like play, games, digital photography, and techno-ecological art. She co-edited a chapter on feminist post-cinematic media for Indie Reframed: Women Filmmakers and Contemporary American Cinema.

Pederson is a curator with over a decade of experience, including moderating -empyre- new media art discussions and organizing exhibitions like the Finger Lakes Film Festival's Viral Dissonance (2013) and Home/s at the Benaki Museum (2013). Her collaborative project Art for Spooks (with Adriana Knouf) explores surveillance through augmented reality.

Her work bridges feminist theory, digital media, and ecological art, with recent focus on Latin American artists' robotic practices and eco-art movements. She maintains active curatorial and research collaborations internationally.
