Claudia Muñoz-Zanzi is an Associate Professor in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Her academic background includes a DVM in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Concepcion (1994), an MPVM in Preventive Veterinary Medicine from the University of California-Davis (1997), and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of California-Davis (2002).
Dr. Muñoz-Zanzi's research focuses on zoonotic infections and emerging infectious diseases, particularly leptospirosis and toxoplasmosis. Her work emphasizes understanding transmission determinants between humans and animals and developing interventions appropriate for limited-resource populations. Her expertise spans infectious disease, eco-epidemiology, zoonoses, one health, field epidemiology, community-based research, and disease diagnosis.
Her recent publications (2020-2025) demonstrate a consistent focus on leptospirosis, yellow fever, and other zoonotic diseases. These works often employ systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and One Health approaches to address neglected tropical diseases and their environmental determinants. Her research frequently examines disease outbreaks in global contexts, particularly in resource-limited settings.
Dr. Muñoz-Zanzi is actively engaged in research that bridges veterinary and human medicine, with publications appearing in journals such as PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Open Forum Infectious Diseases, and BMC Infectious Diseases. Her work often involves international collaborations across multiple continents.
