Claudia Matachana Lopez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Modern Languages at Bentley University. Her research focuses on sociolinguistics, sociophonetics, and bilingual education, with a particular emphasis on Spanish language ideologies and linguistic discrimination in the United States.

Her research explores linguistic attitudes, raciolinguistic ideologies, and the sociopolitical dimensions of Spanish language variation in educational contexts. Recent publications analyze perceptions of Puerto Rican Spanish among Massachusetts educators and linguistic ideologies in YouTube discourse.
Her work bridges phonetic analysis with broader sociocultural questions, as evidenced by a 2020 conference proceeding on creaky voice patterns in Mandarin, Cantonese, and White Hmong prosody.
