Claudia Girardone is Dean of Essex Business School and Professor of Banking and Finance at the University of Essex. She holds external positions as Academic Fellow at the Centre for Responsible Banking and Finance (University of St Andrews) and Member of the Scientific Committee of the EU-Mediterranean and African Network for Economic Studies (EMANES). Previously, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Bank of England (2015-2019) and the International Monetary Fund (2024).
- Education: PhD in Economics (Bangor University), MA in Banking and Finance (Bangor University), Degree in Political Sciences (Università degli Studi di Genova, summa cum laude)
Research Interests focus on bank financial and social performance, corporate governance, bank stability, financial inclusion, and banking market integration. Her recent work examines ESG strategies in banking, the impact of negative interest rates on bank efficiency, and FinTech's role in SMEs financing.

Publications: Over 70 articles in journals like Journal of Corporate Finance, European Journal of Operational Research, and Journal of Banking and Finance. Co-author of the textbook Introduction to Banking (3/e, Pearson FT, 2021). Associate Editor for multiple journals including International Journal of Finance and Economics and Journal of Financial Economic Policy.
