Claudia Fahrenwald is a retired Professor of Organizational Pedagogy at the University of Teacher Education Upper Austria, focusing on school development. She holds a habilitation in Education Sciences (2011) and a PhD from the University of Augsburg (1999). Her work spans democracy education, civic engagement, Holocaust education, cultural pedagogy, and gender studies. She has led major projects like the EU-funded SLEAD initiative (2022-2024) promoting democratic competencies, and the MemAct! project (2020-2022) developing Holocaust education methods through arts and media.
She is head of the CEDI Civic Education International research center and a co-convenor of the ECER Network 32 on Organizational Education. Notable publications include monographs on narrative learning cultures (2011) and Wittgenstein's language philosophy (2000), with recent works exploring campus-community partnerships and postcolonial organizational learning. She has collaborated internationally with institutions like the University of Pittsburgh and the Learning through Engagement Foundation in Berlin.
Her professional memberships include the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE) and Austrian Society for Research in Education (ÖFEB). She has held visiting professorships at the University of Hamburg (2011-2013) and led research networks like Women Leading Education (WLE).
