Claudia Cooper

Professor Claudia Cooper holds a dual role as Professor of Psychological Medicine and Centre Lead at Queen Mary University of London's Wolfson Institute of Population Health. She leads the Centre for Psychiatry and Mental Health and serves as a consultant old age psychiatrist in East London NHS Foundation Trust memory services. Her research focuses on dementia prevention, aging populations, and mental health interventions, particularly in diverse populations. Key initiatives include the Alzheimer’s Society Centre of Excellence for Independence at Home and the NIHR/ESRC APPLE-Tree programme, which explores lifestyle and technology-based interventions to reduce dementia risk. She co-directs the NIHR Dementia and Neurodegenerative Policy Research Unit (DeNPRU-QM).

Her work spans qualitative and quantitative methodologies, addressing dementia diagnosis disparities, elder abuse prevention, and cybercrime among older adults. She is an NIHR Senior Investigator and advises the UK Cabinet Office Trial Advice Panel on national policy evaluations. Supervised PhD topics include dementia in Parkinson’s disease, cultural adaptations of dementia care, and cybercrime prevention strategies for older populations.
