معرفی
Claude Messier is a Professor in Psychology, with a focus on cognitive aging, memory processes, and the interplay between glucose metabolism and brain function. His groundbreaking research has established diabetes as a major risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, along with exploring the role of cerebrovascular disease in this association.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Psychology, McGill University (1986)
- M.A. in Psychology, McGill University (1982)
- B.A. in Psychology, Université Laval (1980)
His work spans immunocytochemical detection of functional brain changes, adult neurogenesis, and the effects of glucose and lactate metabolism on memory. He also discovered that GLUT1 (the primary blood-to-brain glucose transporter) expression increases with neuronal activation, challenging prior assumptions.
Professor Messier currently teaches courses including PSY-3301 - Behavioral Neuroscience, PSY-4180 - Human Neuropsychology, and PSY-2301 - Biological Foundations of Behaviour, and has collaborated with TelAsk technologies via a NSERC Strategic Grant to develop age-adaptive voice response systems.
