معرفی
Claude F. Boutron is a Professor at the University Joseph Fourier of Grenoble, France, and a leading figure in atmospheric chemistry and glaciology. His research focuses on the geochemical cycles of heavy metals in the atmosphere and their historical pollution patterns.
- Senior Member (1995–2005) and Honorary Member (since 2005) of the Institut Universitaire de France
- Honorary Member (since 2007) of the European Geosciences Union
Research Interests: Boutron pioneered techniques to analyze heavy metals at ultra-low concentrations in ice cores, revealing pollution histories spanning millennia. His work includes studying Pb and Cu pollution during the Roman era, tracking industrial lead in Greenland and Antarctic ice, and investigating mercury and uranium sources in remote regions.
Awards:
- 2002: Theurlot, Durand-Claye, Alexandre Darracq, and Coron-Thevenet Prizes (French Academy of Sciences)
- 2003: Gold Medal of the University Joseph Fourier
- 2006: Felice Ippolito International Prize (Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, Rome)
- 2007: Alfred Wegener Medal (European Geosciences Union) and Co-laureate of the Descartes Prize (European Union project EPICA)
Boutron led international collaborations in ultra-sensitive analytical techniques and directed the European Research Course on Atmosphere, attracting over 50 students annually. His work connects atmospheric geochemistry, historical pollution, and climate science, with significant contributions to understanding human impacts on remote environments.
