Clas Eriksson is a Professor of Economics at Mälardalen University's School of Business Society and Engineering, within the Division of Economy and Political Science. He holds a Ph.D. from Uppsala University and has held academic positions at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Gävle University. His research focuses on economic growth theory, environmental sustainability, renewable energy transitions, and the interplay between human capital, innovation, and policy.
Key research topics include the constraints that environmental considerations and resource scarcity impose on economic growth, green GDP metrics, renewable energy market dynamics, and the effects of political institutions on environmental outcomes. His influential book, Economic Growth and the Environment (Oxford University Press, 2013), synthesizes theoretical frameworks addressing these themes.
Recent projects explore green GDP measurement, innovation-driven growth, and renewable energy integration in electricity markets. His publications span environmental economics, growth theory, and policy analysis, emphasizing empirical and theoretical linkages between sustainability and economic development.
Eriksson's work has contributed to debates on income inequality's environmental impacts, democratic governance's role in pollution reduction, and the viability of market-based solutions like green consumerism. He has advised on energy policy and sustainability frameworks, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to address complex socio-economic challenges.
