Dr. Clare Stawski is a Senior Lecturer in Terrestrial Vertebrate Ecology at the University of the Sunshine Coast (Australia), affiliated with the School of Science, Technology and Engineering. Her research focuses on how animals adapt to environmental challenges, particularly through thermal physiology, metabolism, and behavior. She holds a PhD from the University of New England and completed postdoctoral research in Australia, Poland, and Norway.
Her work spans field and laboratory studies on mammals (e.g., bats, antechinus, dunnarts) and emphasizes responses to extreme temperatures, wildfires, habitat loss, and climate change. Key projects investigate torpor use, energy management, and survival strategies in small mammals. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and secured grants including the DECRA Fellowship and a Norwegian equipment grant.
- Professional Memberships: Australian and New Zealand Society for Comparative Physiology and Biochemistry, Australasian Bat Society
- Awards: DECRA (2016–2017), Norwegian Early Career Grants (2018–2021)
- Teaching: Ecophysiology, Animal Form and Function
Her research highlights the critical role of physiological flexibility in应对 environmental stressors, with a focus on fire ecology and climate change impacts. Collaborations span institutions globally, and she actively engages in science communication via media and social media.
