Clare Parsons

Dr. Clare Parsons is a Lecturer teaching ENGL394 (Business Writing) in the Professional Writing Program at the University of Maryland. With a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Harvard University (1996), her research originally focused on the historical and aesthetic impact of the flâneur figure in literature.

Her current pedagogical research explores gamification strategies in blended and asynchronous learning environments, particularly emphasizing peer challenges and audience-based problem-solving in professional writing instruction. She has developed innovative online courses applying 'modding' principles to rhetorical strategy development and audience analysis.

Dr. Parsons maintains active research interests in connecting embodied cognition principles to virtual learning environments and applying cognitive science frameworks to professional and personal communications.
