Clare Marie Robinson

Dr Clare Marie Robinson is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Statistics at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. She joined QMUL in 2009 after roles at the Medical Research Council and Institute of Psychiatry. Her academic career spans clinical trial statistics, statistical methodology for healthcare research, and leadership in pilot trials research. She previously worked in the pharmaceutical industry and took a career break to focus on family life before returning in 2020.

Education: BSc Mathematics & Applied Statistics (First Class, University of Reading), MSc Statistics with Applications in Medicine (Distinction, University of Southampton), PhD in Primary Care & Public Health (Queen Mary University of London), and Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (University of London).

Research focuses on statistical methods for clinical trials, particularly cluster randomized trials, sample size calculations for ordinal outcomes, and methodological challenges in trial design. Her work bridges statistical rigor and real-world healthcare applications, including domestic violence intervention evaluations and public health policy impact assessments.

Current roles include joint lead of the pilot trials research group at the Wolfson Institute and senior statistician in the Pragmatic Clinical Trials Unit. Supervision includes advising Saskia Eddy on external randomized controlled pilot trials. Her contributions emphasize improving trial design transparency and methodological quality in population health research.
