Clare Grey is a Professor at Stony Brook University and holds the Geoffrey Moorhouse Gibson Professorship in Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, UK. She serves as Associate Director of the Northeastern Center for Chemical Energy Storage and Head of the Inorganic Sector at Cambridge University. Her research focuses on materials chemistry, particularly using NMR and diffraction techniques to study energy storage materials like lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells. Notable awards include the Kavli Medal, Fellowships from the Royal Society, and the RSC John Jeyes Award. Her work emphasizes structure-function relationships in disordered materials, with contributions to anionic conductors and battery electrode materials.
- B.A., University of Oxford (1987)
- Ph.D., University of Oxford (1991)
- Junior Research Fellow at Balliol College, Oxford (1990)
- Royal Society Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Nijmegen (1991–1992)
Research interests span solid-state NMR applications in batteries, catalysis, and environmental chemistry. Her group investigates materials for energy storage and environmental remediation, leveraging interdisciplinary collaborations. Key contributions include structural insights into LiCoO₂ nanoparticles and ion-conducting oxides.
