Clare Bambra is Professor of Public Health serving as Associate Director and Health Inequalities lead for Fuse: Centre for Translational Research in Public Health, Executive member of the NIHR School for Public Health Research, and co-Director of the Equal North research network.
Her research critically examines political, social, economic, and environmental determinants of health through interdisciplinary frameworks bridging social sciences, public health, and epidemiology. She investigates how austerity policies, welfare systems, and neoliberal governance create health inequalities, with emphasis on spatial disparities and community-level interventions.
Professor Bambra leads major research initiatives including a Leverhulme Research Leadership Award project on Local Health Inequalities in an Age of Austerity and the Norface-funded HiNEWS project analyzing European health disparities. She also contributes to the ESRC Rethinking Incapacity project.
