Claire Young serves as a Social Work Lecturer within the School of Law and Social Sciences at Robert Gordon University (RGU), concurrently holding the appointed role of Staff Equality Champion for Sexual Orientation since joining the institution in 2022. Her academic position builds upon extensive professional experience in Children and Families services and Substance Use interventions within frontline social work.
Her professional focus centers on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) frameworks with specific emphasis on Sexual Orientation as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. She actively develops inclusive campus environments through structured feedback mechanisms, policy advocacy, and collaborative event programming including Pride Parade participation and LGBT History Month celebrations. Her work bridges academic social work principles with practical EDI implementation across university operations.
Claire co-leads the university's LGBTQIA+ Action Group which provides dedicated support spaces for community members and allies. The group organizes visibility initiatives, educational forums, and advocacy campaigns while serving as the primary channel for staff feedback on sexual orientation inclusion matters. She maintains an open invitation for community engagement through direct email contact and group participation.
