Claire Warwick is Professor of Digital Humanities in the Department of English Studies at Durham University, where she has held significant leadership positions including Pro-Vice-Chancellor: Research from 2014-2019 and chair of the Russell Group PVCRs working group. Previously, she served as Head of UCL Department of Information Studies and director of the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities.
Professor Warwick earned her PhD in English Literature from Cambridge University, followed by a postdoctoral position at Oxford University's Humanities Computing Unit and Faculty of English. She began her academic career as a lecturer at Sheffield University's iSchool before progressing to leadership roles at UCL and Durham.
Her research focuses on the intersection of digital technologies and humanities scholarship, examining how digital resources and artificial intelligence techniques are used in humanities and cultural heritage contexts with particular attention to reading behavior in both physical and digital spaces. She has led significant projects including the AEOLIAN network which explored AI applications for archives and cultural heritage. Her work bridges multiple domains including user studies, human-computer interaction, history of cyberspace, and digital cultural heritage studies.
