Dr. Claire Troakes is a Senior Lecturer at King's College London's Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience within the School of Neuroscience. She is affiliated with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience and coordinates the London Neurodegenerative Diseases Brain Bank, a major resource for CNS tissue research. Her work focuses on neurodegenerative disease pathology, including mechanisms linking head injury to neurodegeneration and genetic risk factors in ALS and frontotemporal dementia.
- Key roles: Brain Bank Coordinator, Principal Investigator for multiple grants
- Research areas: ALS, Alzheimer's, genetic neuropathology
- Collaborations: King's College Hospital, leading neuroscientists in translational research
Her research combines molecular pathology with clinical studies, investigating:
- Neuronal damage mechanisms in neurodegeneration
- Genetic markers in FTLD-TDP subtypes
- Impact of traumatic brain injury on neurodegenerative processes
Grants include Alzheimer's Research UK funding (2025-2026) and projects exploring progranulin's role in dementia. Active in neuropathological investigations of spinal cord trauma and inherited prion disease biomarkers.
