Claire Ozanne is a Professor at the School of Life and Health Sciences, University of Roehampton, serving as Deputy Provost for Research and External Engagement. Her research focuses on arthropod ecology in human-impacted habitats, particularly temperate and tropical forest canopies, emphasizing ecosystem services and community assembly rules. She has led international projects in Guyana, Australia, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, examining edge effects, fire impacts, and ethnoecology.
Education:
- BA, University of Oxford
- MA, University of Oxford
- DPhil, University of Oxford
Claire’s work spans biodiversity conservation, applied entomology, and ecological methodology. She developed techniques for Collembola extraction and contributed to understanding canopy arthropod dynamics in coniferous vs. broadleaved forests. Her 2009 Science publication highlighted forest canopies as critical sites for climate change research.
Her research outputs (20) include collaborations with Peter Shaw on suspended leaf litter biodiversity and BBC media engagements. Awards include NERC/ESRC studentships, Royal Society grants, and Zoological Society funding.
