Claire McNamara serves as an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing & Midwifery within the Faculty of Education and Health Sciences at the University of Limerick, where she has been a university teacher since 2022.
Her academic credentials include a Diploma in Nursing from Queens University Belfast, Higher Diploma in Midwifery and MSc Nursing from University of Limerick, and Postgraduate Diploma in Nurse Education from University of Galway (awarded June 2021). With over 20 years as a Registered General Nurse, she possesses extensive perioperative experience and contributed to critical care during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Her research centers on student nurse education in perioperative settings, investigating clinical training effectiveness and safety protocols. Current work focuses on optimizing surgical safety checklists and understanding healthcare worker experiences with antibiotic-resistant infections.
McNamara's recent publications (2022-2023) address perioperative learning, CPE infection management, and surgical safety compliance through qualitative and review methodologies. Her work demonstrates consistent focus on improving nursing education and acute care safety in hospital environments.
She is actively pursuing a structured PhD at University of Limerick to influence nursing education policy, building on her clinical expertise and research in perioperative training environments.
