Claire Mason is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Child and Family Justice Research, School of Social Sciences, Lancaster University, since 2015. Her work bridges academia and social care practice, focusing on families and mothers subjected to compulsory state interventions. She is a qualified social worker dedicated to translating research into policy and practice.

Her research amplifies lived experiences through qualitative methods, notably leading the Nuffield Foundation-funded study Vulnerable Birth Mothers and Recurrent Care Proceedings. She co-developed national guidelines for safeguarding interventions at birth and founded the national Community of Practice for post-proceedings parental support.
Current work includes the Giving HOPE project, co-producing HOPE Boxes with HOPE mothers to minimize trauma during mother-infant separation. Collaborators include NHS England, Birth Companions, and Rachel Grey, supported by the Sir Halley Stewart Trust.
