Dr. Claire Lennon is the Programme Development Lead and Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at the School of Science and Computing, South East Technological University (SETU), and a founding member of the Pharmaceutical and Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre (PMBRC). She holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from University College Dublin (2002) and has postdoctoral experience at the University of Edinburgh and industry roles at Pfizer Ireland Pharmaceuticals. Her research focuses on organic synthesis using sustainable methods, biocatalysis, anti-microbial development, and NMR spectroscopy.
Education: BSc in Industrial Chemistry (University of Limerick, 1998), PhD in Stereoselective Synthesis (UCD, 2002), Postgraduate Diploma in Process & Chemical Engineering (UCC, 2006). She was awarded the SETU Teaching Excellence Award (2021) and nominated for Research Supervision Awards (2022-2023). Her B36 laboratory achieved Green Lab Certification (2023).
Research emphasizes green chemistry principles, including flow chemistry, cascade reactions, and sustainable solvents. She has supervised 4 PhD graduates, 1 MSc student, and currently mentors 3 students. She chairs the Science Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Network and co-organized national conferences (2021-2022). Educational contributions include developing the L9 Certificate in Green and Sustainable Pharmaceutical Production and instructional videos for chemistry education.
