Professor Claire Helen Quinn is a leading environmental social scientist at the University of Leeds' School of Earth and Environment, with over 20 years of interdisciplinary experience in Africa, Europe, and Asia. Her work bridges natural and social sciences to advance understanding of social-ecological systems, focusing on smallholder livelihood vulnerability and climate-smart agriculture.
Education:
- PhD in Social Policy and Environmental Management, University of York
- MRes in Ecology and Environmental Management, University of York
- BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences (Ecology specialism), King's College
Research Focus: She explores the role of natural resources in smallholder livelihoods, institutional influences on climate adaptation, and stakeholder engagement in mangrove systems and agricultural policy. Her projects include GCRF-AFRICAP, FSNet-Africa, and Newton South East Asia Partnership Programme collaborations.
Supervision & Grants: Claire supervises PhD students in areas like African food systems and climate transitions, with her students receiving funding from ESRC WRDTP, Priestley Scholarships, NERC DTP, and Commonwealth Scholarships. She co-leads initiatives to improve soil sustainability (RECARE) and climate adaptation frameworks.
