Claire Gorrara is a Professor of French Studies and Dean for Research and Innovation at Cardiff University's College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a DPhil from Oxford University and has held leadership roles including Head of the School of Modern Languages. Her research focuses on narratives of WWII in France through visual mediums like photography and comics, particularly examining how these forms transmit war memories. She also leads initiatives to promote language learning in UK schools through mentoring programs, collaborating with governments and educational institutions across Wales, Spain, and New Zealand. Gorrara has received prestigious honors including the Chevalier dans l'Ordre National du Mérite and is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales. Her work bridges academic research with policy advocacy, emphasizing the societal impact of humanities disciplines.
