Claire Elisabeth Dungey is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Researcher at King’s College London’s Department of Digital Humanities, within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Centre for Digital Culture. She specializes in digital anthropology, surveillance studies, and mobility research, with a focus on how technology mediates social relationships and access to resources in global contexts.
Her education includes a PhD in Anthropology from Aarhus University (2015), focusing on schooling and youth dynamics in Uganda, followed by projects at Brunel University London (2016–2018) on futures and education in Lesotho, and work at Durham University (2019–2021) on women’s mobility challenges in Africa and UK transport planning. Her current project examines how app-based monitoring reshapes child-parent relationships in Germany.
Research interests span digital surveillance ethics, mobility inequities, and participatory methodologies. Recent work emphasizes marginalized groups’ experiences, such as young women’s safety in African cities and policy interventions to improve transport access. She has collaborated with policymakers in Tunisia, Nigeria, and South Africa, advocating for inclusive urban planning.
Teaching experience includes courses on educational anthropology and qualitative methods at Aarhus and Brunel Universities. Her research methodologies prioritize ethical engagement with communities, including training peer researchers in participatory studies.
