Dr Claire Cousins is an Associate Professor in Earth Sciences at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of St Andrews. She specializes in planetary analogues and experimental research for robotic space missions, focusing on geothermal systems, cryovolcanism, and microbial life preservation. She contributes to ESA's ExoMars Rover mission via the Panoramic Camera and Enfys science teams. Her work bridges science and art through collaborations with visual/audio artists.
Research emphasizes habitability studies in Mars-analog environments, sulfur isotope biosignatures, and carbonate-hosted microbial systems. She leads projects funded by STFC, NERC, and the Leverhulme Trust, including investigations into Europa's subsurface oceans and extraterrestrial biosignature detection.
