Claire Anscomb is a Lecturer in Fine Art at De Montfort University, combining artistic practice with philosophy. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Winchester School of Art (2014), an MA in History and Philosophy of Art from the University of Kent, and a PhD in History and Philosophy of Art from the University of Kent (2019). Her postdoctoral work at the University of Liverpool (2021-22) focused on AI-generated images.
- Doctoral thesis: 'On the Significance of Automaticity in Image-Making Practices'
- Award: British Society of Aesthetics Postdoctoral Award
Her interdisciplinary practice merges traditional drawing with AI to interrogate visibility in art, including representation of women in public sculpture, algorithmic beautification apps, and 'invisible' illnesses. Philosophically, she explores creativity, automatic image-making processes, and the epistemic/affective dimensions of drawing.
She serves as an editor for the peer-reviewed journal Debates in Aesthetics, bridging contemporary art practices with theoretical inquiry.
