Clair Baldock

Professor Clair Baldock leads research on extracellular matrix proteins at the University of Manchester, employing structural biology techniques to investigate molecular assembly and growth factor regulation. Her work combines SAXS, cryo-TEM, and electron tomography to analyze fibrillar assemblies.

Education includes a PhD from the University of Sheffield. Previous positions include Senior Lecturer and Royal Society Olga Kennard Research Fellow at Manchester.

Research focuses on three areas:

• Regulation of BMP growth factors by extracellular inhibitors
• Structural organization of fibrillin microfibrils in elastic tissues
• Molecular assembly of tropoelastin and collagen VI

Her laboratory has characterized novel mechanisms controlling bone morphogenetic proteins and determined nanostructures of key matrix proteins.
