Cirien Saadeh, PhD is an Arab-American educator and community organizer at Prescott College, where she teaches in the Organizing and Community Justice (MA) and Critical Social Justice and Solidarity (BA) programs. She also serves as Department Coordinator for both programs and is a community-trained journalist dedicated to leveraging journalism and education to dismantle systems of oppression in marginalized communities.
- PhD in Sustainability Education from Prescott College (2019)
- MA in the Humanities (justice, activism, solidarity) and MS in Resilient and Sustainable Communities from Prescott College
Research and Teaching Interests:
Dr. Saadeh's work bridges journalism, social movement development, experiential education, and sustainability. Her doctoral research introduced the theory of "Journalism of Color," focusing on creating sustainable journalism platforms that empower marginalized communities and build resilience through community-driven methodologies.
Leadership and Community Engagement:
She founded the Journalism of Color Training Center, a community journalism school and support network, and is involved in boards for The Alley Communications and the Journalism & Women Symposium. Her community organizing apprenticeship was completed at the Organizing Apprenticeship Project (now Voices for Racial Justice) and the University of Minnesota’s Center for Urban and Regional Affairs Neighborhood Leadership and Organizing Program.
