Cindy McCreery is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin. She specializes in screenwriting and television writing, holding the Screenwriting Area Head role. Her academic career includes teaching at UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, and UT Austin since 2004.
McCreery is a Walt Disney/ABC Feature Writing Fellowship alumna (2002-2003) and has sold screenplays to major studios, including New Line Cinema, Disney, Paramount, and Warner Brothers. Notable projects include Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove (2010) and I'll Be There (2023, winner of the Austin Film Festival Audience Award). She has also developed TV projects for SyFy, Disney Channel, and AMC's Shudder.
Her creative work spans film and television, with a focus on narrative storytelling across genres. She currently leads academic initiatives in screenwriting education while maintaining active industry collaborations through projects with studios and production companies.
