Chuyan Zhao

Chuyan Zhao is a Research Fellow at the Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC) of Michigan Technological University, based in GLRC 210. The GLRC serves as an interdisciplinary hub for advancing scientific understanding of the Great Lakes ecosystem through collaborative research initiatives.

Dr. Zhao's research concentrates on critical environmental fluid dynamics and coastal resilience challenges in freshwater systems, with emphasis on:

• High-resolution hydrodynamic modeling and data assimilation techniques for Great Lakes forecasting
• Coastal infrastructure protection strategies against erosion and flooding events
• Complex interactions between wave-current dynamics and submerged aquatic vegetation
• Sediment transport mechanics in vegetated nearshore environments

As part of the GLRC's research community, Dr. Zhao contributes to interdisciplinary projects addressing climate change impacts and sustainable management of the world's largest freshwater system through advanced computational and field-based approaches.
