Dr. Chunxiu (Traci) Yu, formally known as Chunxiu Yu, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University and Affiliated Assistant Professor in Biological Sciences. Her work bridges neural engineering, computational modeling, and biomedical device development for neurological disorders.
- Ph.D. from Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel)
- Postdoctoral training at Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill
- Prior research scientist at Duke University's Biomedical Engineering Department
Her research focuses on neuroengineering and brain stimulation (optogenetic/electrical), targeting disorders like Parkinson’s disease, depression, stroke, and addiction. Key methodologies include neural signal processing, electrophysiology, behavioral assays, and computational modeling.
Dr. Yu's lab, the Brain Stimulation Engineering Lab, develops novel deep brain stimulation paradigms. Current efforts emphasize temporal pattern design, closed-loop systems, and device optimization to enhance therapeutic outcomes.
Scientific awards:
- NIH Research Enhancement Award (2020)
- Portage Health Foundation Research Excellence Award (2020)
- NIH Small Research Grant (2018)
- MTU Engineering Cross-Cutting Initiative funding (2018)
- C2E2 equipment grant (2019)
She has secured NIH R03 and R15 grants, alongside MTU internal funds, to support her work on brain stimulation therapies.
