Chung Ping Ping serves as Lecturer and Head of Department of Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. She holds a PhD in Materials Engineering from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, complemented by an MSc from Loughborough University (UK) and BEng from University of Technology Malaysia.
Her research program centers on sustainable materials innovation, specifically converting agricultural waste into functional materials through three interconnected thrusts: (1) Developing corrosion-resistant coatings using biomass-derived additives, (2) Engineering self-cleaning surfaces for solar energy applications, and (3) Creating biocomposites from sago, durian, and pineapple waste streams. This work integrates advanced characterization techniques including neutron scattering (via ANSTO partnerships) and electrochemical analysis to solve industrial challenges in oil/gas, renewable energy, and manufacturing sectors.
Dr. Chung's research trajectory demonstrates consistent growth with 40% of her 10 publications appearing in 2023-2025, shifting from fundamental electrodeposition studies toward applied sustainable materials. Her current publications focus on nanocellulose extraction from agricultural waste and advanced coating characterization, reflecting strong alignment with circular economy principles and industrial decarbonization needs.
Her significant recognition includes:
- Consecutive Research Success Awards (2023-2025)
- 2024 Excellence Oral Presentation at ICEIM Conference
- 2023 Sustainability Challenge Gold Medal (UKM)
- 2022 Vice-Chancellor's SDG Week Award
- 2019 Marshall Fordham Best Research Paper Award
She actively secures competitive funding with six active grants totaling MYR 184,200, including Swinburne Research Supervision Grants, Sarawak Research Development Centre funding, and industry partnerships with Sarawak Energy. Dr. Chung maintains strong industry links through professional memberships in Materials Australia, IOM³, and Board of Engineers Malaysia, while welcoming PhD/Master's candidates for fully funded projects in sustainable electrochemical deposition and solar coating technologies.
