Chun Liang is a Professor in the Cell, Molecular and Structural Biology Graduate Program at Miami University. His lab focuses on bioinformatics tool development, biological database construction, and data-driven biological research. Key areas include transposable element analysis, CRISPR-based genome editing, DNA methylation in regeneration, and transcriptome analysis in cancer and developmental biology.
Research interests span computational genomics, non-coding RNA biology, and algorithm development for genomic data analysis. Recent work emphasizes CRISPR tool design (e.g., CRISPR-DT, LncDC), transposable element dysregulation in cancer, and epigenetic mechanisms in retina regeneration.
- Lab develops tools like Generic Repeat Finder and piRNN for genomic sequence analysis
- Investigates functional roles of transposable elements in disease and development
- Conducts multi-omics studies on gene regulation networks in eye development
Teaches courses including Bioinformatics Computing Skills (BIO/CHM/CSE/MBI 466-566) and Introduction to Programming for the Life Sciences (BIO/CSE/MBI 256).
