Christy L. Oxendine

Christy L. Oxendine (Lumbee) is an Assistant Professor at the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, University of Oklahoma. She specializes in decolonial education history, focusing on Indigenous ways of knowing and the impact of settler colonization on public schooling. Her current research examines the racialization of the Lumbee people in Robeson County, North Carolina, and the historical development of the tri-racial state and county school systems (1885–1940).

Dr. Oxendine is a first-generation college graduate from Lumberton, North Carolina (Robeson County), and her work bridges Indigenous epistemologies with critical analyses of educational policy and historiography. Prior to her faculty role, she spent over 15 years in higher education administration.
