Christopher Wimer is the Co-Director of the Center on Poverty and Social Policy at Columbia University. He specializes in poverty measurement, social policy evaluation, and the impacts of economic insecurity on families. His work examines historical poverty trends, government program efficacy, and strategies to mitigate material hardship. Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University.
His research focuses on how low-income families cope with poverty, including food insecurity and policy interventions. He leads the Robin Hood Poverty Tracker and manages poverty-related projects at the Center. Wimer holds a PhD in Sociology & Social Policy from Harvard University, where his thesis explored childrearing outcomes in diverse neighborhoods linked to parental employment stability.
