Dr. Christopher Tyler is a Reader in Environmental Physiology at the University of Roehampton, specializing in human responses to extreme thermal environments. His research focuses on mitigating heat strain through cooling interventions and heat acclimation strategies. He collaborates with industries like Nike and elite sports teams (e.g., Formula One) to optimize performance and health in high-temperature conditions.
- Serves as Programme Convenor for Sport and Exercise Science programmes.
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and external examiner for multiple universities.
- Active in consultancy, providing physiological expertise to sports organizations and academic journals.
Key research areas include thermal physiology, sports performance optimization, and the cognitive impacts of heat stress. His work has been disseminated through over 68 peer-reviewed publications and international conferences. Notable projects include optimizing F1 pit crew performance and heat adaptation protocols for team sports.
Recipient of the HEA Fellowship and frequently invited as a peer reviewer and speaker at global events like the Global Climate and Health Summit.
Supervises PhD students in environmental physiology and collaborates with international researchers across disciplines.
