Dr Christopher Tuck is a Reader in Strategic Studies at King's College London's Defence Studies Department, part of the School of Security Studies within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. He joined the Department of Defence Studies in 1997 and previously served as a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Reading, focusing on British strategy during the Malaysian-Indonesian Confrontation (1963-66), and an MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Aberystwyth.
His research centers on strategic utility of landpower, conflict termination, and future warfare. Key themes include counterinsurgency operations (e.g., British actions in Borneo) and land warfare dynamics. He actively contributes to the Sir Michael Howard Centre for the History of War, promoting scholarly analysis of military history and hosting conferences.
Tuck teaches military strategy courses, including the Advanced Command and Staff Course, and supervises PhD candidates in his research areas. His work has been recognized with the 2017 Elihu Root Prize. He remains affiliated with the Second World War Research Group and continues academic engagement through publications and lectures on global security topics.
