Christopher Trentacosta is a Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychology at Wayne State University, with a joint appointment at the Merrill-Palmer Skillman Institute for Child & Family Development. His research focuses on emotion competence, self-regulation, and neurodevelopmental outcomes in children, particularly in low-income families. He has extensive experience in longitudinal studies examining genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors influencing child development.

Research interests include developmental psychopathology, transmission mechanisms of emotional regulation difficulties, and prevention programs for conduct problems. Grants include roles as Multi-PI in NIEHS-funded projects (e.g., linking micronutrients/toxicants to child development) and NIMH-funded studies on prenatal inflammation and neurodevelopment. He has also contributed to community-engaged projects like the Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (CURES).
Teaching includes courses on professional ethics, psychological interventions, and diversity. His work emphasizes translating research into practical solutions for families facing environmental and socioeconomic challenges.
