Christopher S. Muratore

Christopher S. Muratore, MD, FACS, FAAP, is a Clinical Professor at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Boston Medical Center. His academic and clinical expertise spans pediatric general surgery, thoracic surgery, trauma, and critical care, with a focus on fetal surgery, congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He previously served as Knapp-Swezey Professor and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and Program Director of the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at Brown University’s Alpert Medical School. Dr. Muratore has pioneered interdisciplinary ECMO programs and fetal treatment initiatives, contributing to national standards in these fields.

Education: MD and MS from Georgetown University, BS from Syracuse University. Awards include multiple Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards and the Sidney Farber House Staff Award.

Research Interests: ECMO management, fetal surgical interventions, congenital anomalies, and optimizing outcomes in critically ill pediatric patients. His work emphasizes translational research and clinical protocols to enhance surgical care equity and reduce complications.
