Christopher Rider is the Thomas C. Kinnear Professor and Associate Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley (2008), an MBA from the University of Chicago (2003), and a BA from Johns Hopkins University (1998). His research focuses on entrepreneurship's relationship with societal inequality, racial disparities, and sports leadership dynamics. He has published in top journals like Administrative Science Quarterly, American Journal of Sociology, and Organization Science. His work has been featured in major media outlets such as the New York Times and ESPN. Rider teaches courses on entrepreneurship, DEI analytics, and research methods, including the Equity Analytics course recognized by AACSB Insights. He previously taught at Georgetown University, Emory University, and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and held strategic roles at Cars.com, Intel, and Verizon.
Research interests include equity in leadership, organizational status dynamics, and the intersection of entrepreneurship and social mobility. His recent work examines racial bias in NFL coaching promotions and the impact of war on Ukrainian businesses. Awards include top honors in DEI case writing competitions. Rider advises doctoral students and contributes to executive education programs worldwide.
