Christopher P. Furner is a Professor in the Department of Management Information Systems at the College of Business, East Carolina University. He has been at ECU since 2013, progressing from Assistant to Associate to full Professor by 2022. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at West Texas A&M University from 2008 to 2013.

Dr. Furner's research centers on mobile computing and cultural influences on information systems usage. His work explores mobile app stickiness, location-based privacy, mobile self-efficacy, and electronic word-of-mouth. He investigates how information overload, reviewer-consumer congruence, and image use affect trust and purchase intention in digital environments. His studies often adopt cross-cultural perspectives to understand media choice and system adoption.
The 15 most recent publications reflect a strong trend in consumer behavior in digital platforms, particularly in eWOM, mobile apps, and telemedicine. His research spans disciplines including information systems, marketing, organizational behavior, and healthcare technology. Recent work extends into IT leadership, cybersecurity resilience, and transformational leadership in technology contexts.

Dr. Furner has played a leadership role in AACSB and ABET accreditation efforts, contributed to the development of ECU's graduate Data Analytics program, and served as Managing Editor for Communications of the AIS. He teaches courses in business intelligence, data analytics, and management information systems, emphasizing experiential learning and professional development.
He is actively engaged in research, service, and teaching, with ongoing projects in telemedicine adoption, cybersecurity leadership, and digital consumer behavior.
