Dr. Christopher P. Banks is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Kent State University, where he also directs the College of Arts and Sciences Pre-Law Center and serves as the department's pre-law advisor. He holds a Ph.D. in American Government from the University of Virginia (1995), a J.D. from the University of Dayton (1984), and a B.A. from the University of Connecticut (1980). Prior to academia, he practiced law in civil/criminal litigation and held a gubernatorial appointment as an administrative hearing officer with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
His research focuses on judicial policymaking, federalism, legal education, and national security law. Notable works include *The American Legal Profession: The Myths & Realities of Practicing Law* (2nd ed., 2023) and *Controversies in American Federalism and Public Policy* (2018). He has authored/co-authored over 30 books and articles analyzing Supreme Court jurisprudence, anti-terrorism legal frameworks, and constitutional federalism dynamics.
His work has been recognized, including Library Journal’s Best Reference Title (2017) for *The State and Federal Courts: A Complete Guide*. His teaching spans constitutional law, public administration, terrorism policy, and legal ethics. He advises pre-law students and integrates interdisciplinary approaches to address challenges in legal education and practice.
