Christopher Millett is a Professor of Public Health at Imperial College London’s School of Public Health (Faculty of Medicine). He also holds a Visiting Professorship at NOVA University Lisbon’s National School of Public Health. His roles include leading the Public Health Policy Evaluation Unit and serving as Co-Principal Investigator for the NIHR Global Health Research Centre on NCDs and Environmental Change in South Asia. He joined the UK in 1994 from Australia, completing a PhD at Imperial College in 2008 and receiving an NIHR Research Professorship in 2014. He is an NIHR Senior Investigator and Fellow of the UK Faculty of Public Health.
His research focuses on public health policy evaluation, particularly the dual benefits of strategies addressing non-communicable diseases and environmental sustainability. Key areas include sustainable diets, active travel, tobacco control, and health system performance. He has published widely on topics like ultra-processed foods, food systems, and health inequalities. His work spans high-, middle-, and low-income countries, with notable studies in China, India, Indonesia, and Brazil.
Teaching includes contributions to Imperial’s Global Master of Public Health (online). He has supervised numerous PhD students and public health trainees. His awards include the NIHR Research Professorship (2014) and NIHR Senior Investigator status. He is actively engaged in global health initiatives, including the NIHR School of Public Health Research and studies on climate change mitigation and health equity.
Recent research highlights include analyzing ultra-processed food consumption’s link to cancer and cardiometabolic diseases, evaluating urban mobility’s health impacts, and assessing China’s primary healthcare reforms. He has also explored the health system impacts of conflicts in Gaza and Brazil’s healthcare expansion programs.
